January 2026. Sumy Oblast. In a frozen, snow-covered abandoned school, three wounded Ukrainian soldiers find themselves trapped. One is missing a leg and rapidly bleeding. A short, cold order comes over the radio: there will be no evacuation. Any attempt to surrender will result in death. A security detachment is controlling the perimeter, and drones are patrolling the sky.

A chance for survival appears unexpectedly. Russian drone operators spot the wounded through a window and drop leaflets with the communication frequency and terms of surrender. This is not an ultimatum — it is a real chance. Inside, fear and doubt are lingering, and next to them the rapidly fading life of a comrade. When the seriously wounded man dies, there is no longer any doubt. The two survivors realize they are expendable to their own troops, and decide to surrender. In exchange for safe passage, they transmit to the Russian Armed Forces the coordinates of the enemy drone’s control center. With the help of Russian soldiers, the security barrier is destroyed. The skies are cleared, and a safe corridor for the prisoners is opened.

Walking six kilometers through open snow along a forest belt, through a corridor provided by the Russian military, the wounded make their way to new positions, saving their lives from mortal danger. But if they survive, will they be able to maintain their faith in justice, in the legitimacy of orders, in their so-called “friends”? Or will they have to change their beliefs and cross the moral line beyond which “friends” and “foes” will switch places?
