Two drilling Chornomornaftogaz platforms, together with Crimea, came under the control of Russia in 2014. Work on them continued until 2022, but Ukrainian attacks led to the two rigs, Crimea-1 and Crimea-2, being only used by military personnel. The Russian Armed Forces maintain control over the platforms, repelling “rolls”, or rather “influxes” of Ukrainian troops, carried out on boats under cover of UAVs.

Despite the commitment of marines and special forces, these operations are carried out under command of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
